Gentle Rain

Monday, November 28th, 2011

Last week I did a quick solo bass recording of “Gentle Rain” by Louis Bonfá. The session was put together and recorded by Ryan Ainsworth and my friend and former student Kevin Johnson from www.notreble.com. Today we’ll get together and listen to how the rainstick accompaniment came out in the final mix. Who knew playing the rainstick took some skill?! I’m looking forward to hearing the final product.

Once it’s ready we will also have a video of the session up on my youtube channel.  More as it develops!

Thanks to the Webcast viewers!

Thanks to everyone who joined us via Ustream to watch the Shenandoah Conservatory Bass Ensemble perform two nights ago. We hope to continue this with other artists and archive the broadcasts on the basscoalition’s Ustream as well, all while improving sound and video quality. So if you want to broadcast your event contact the basscoalition!

Looking forward to the next  one!

However, there a ton on facebook and a few here.   More to come, we promise!!   Also, for those who participated we will be sending out an electronic survey which will really help us refine and expand!

Thank you all for your patience!  The Bass Coalition Web Page will be updated soon!

2010 Bass Coalition Workshop a Success!

Friday, July 9th, 2010

Recently the Bass Coalition held our first Workshop and Solo Competition.  It was three jam-packed days of Bass Orchestra, Chamber Music, Masterclasses, Clinics and Concerts covering classical, jazz and “alternative” styles. Our faculty was fantastic and included David Murray (Butler University), Rufus Reid (jazz legend), myself and Inez Wyrick (Shenandoah University), with a special looping clinic by Brittany Frompovich (VA).

It was a great success, although with almost 50 bassists we might need a bigger venue for next year!  This is a good problem to have! We will definitely be doing this again next year, so keep up at www.basscoalition.com, join the mailing list and let us know about your “bass up front” event.

We had a great time, and want to thank our sponsors one more time. They made the Solo Competition prizes and the many full-tuition scholarships available.  Go and support their businesses so they we keep supporting us!

Special thanks to our sponsors:
